Summary

Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo drop their official 2026 season preview episode of The Mets Pod, with help from new SNY MLB Insider Chelsea Janes! Connor and Joe chat with Chelsea about her first spring training covering the Mets for SNY, what she saw in Port St. Lucie from Carson Benge, Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr, the starting staff, bullpen, and more, plus ask for a player to keep an eye on this summer who may surprise. Later, the guys take the big picture temperature of the starting rotation, bullpen, lineup, and defense of the Mets heading into the regular season, drop their 2026 season predictions that will of course be hilarious to recap later on, go Down on the Farm to review the Spring Breakout Game, and answer Mailbag questions about Nolan McLean and his old college teammate, Mr. Benge. Welcome to the Mets Pod.

I'm your host, Connor Rogers.

Joined, as always by my co-host, Joe DeMail.

But Joe, as I often say, who cares about you today?

1:11.3

We have S&Y's MLB Insider, Chelsea Jane's on the the show for the first time, but I have a feeling the first of many appearances. Chelsea, we will be bothering you during the winter meetings, the trade deadline, all kinds of different times throughout the MLB season. But your first spring training with S&Y, not your first spring training in total. We know your resume by now. But how was it down in Port St. Lucy with S&Y and the Mets? You know, it was great. And I do care that Joe was here because he was helping me get familiar with some of the prospects as we were watching them down there. So, no, it was great. It was, uh, everyone was pretty chill, welcoming.

And yeah, the vibes around the Mets were, were better than I had heard they were. So, uh, yeah, it was, it was a good experience. Talking about that, what was your perception of the Mets coming in?

1:23.9

Obviously, you covered the nationals for a few years and most recently as a national baseball writer. Just what was your perception of the Mets when you were coming into this job?

1:33.6

Well, it was definitely that they were going to find whatever chaos they could find no matter what

1:41.0

every single year. And I think that that has not changed. I certainly expect that.

1:45.3

But I think coming off last year, there was just the sense, you know, as ended up being reported,

1:51.2

that something was a little bit off. It just wasn't clicking for whatever reason. And you could kind of

1:55.8

see there were some stale relationships there, obviously, you know, with Jeff McNeil and, you know,

2:00.4

if Alonzo qualifies, but it just like wasn McNeil and I don't know if Alonzo

2:01.1

qualifies, but it just like wasn't working. So I think that was my main perception,

2:06.0

that it was a team that like should be much better, had the infrastructure, had the intent,

2:10.4

and yet somehow was still stuck. And coming in this year and realizing how kind of easy everything felt in the clubhouse,

2:19.3

it definitely seems like they recognize that too and have made the changes to at least,
