As a child, she was trafficked by her parents. She says that her experience wasn't like the movies, where she was kidnapped and held against her will. Instead,

her mother brought her to adults' homes who groomed and sexually abused her. At the time, her mom

worked for a man who was later charged with multiple counts of child sexual

abuse. Chelsea knew she needed to get away from home for good. Education was my escape from home.

I got scholarships. I was an amazing student. I went to every opportunity I could find for any sort of out-of-the-home program, whether that was camps, whether that was college courses over the summer.
