What is it all about?

The rate of change today is so much faster than it was in the 1980s.

Yeah.

So I don't think it's going to take 25 years to see this become more ubiquitous.

I think it's more like 5 to 10.

I think as people see that the technology

actually can scale that there are viable business models where the carbon impact is significantly

less in an environment where consumer brands are putting out really aggressive targets around

carbon neutrality.

How's everybody doing this fine day?

I am doing fantastically.

It's almost Halloween, which is crazy.

The clocks are about to go back in a few weeks.

Winter will be upon us soon. So why not talk about skis? But not just any

skis. Algae skis. That's right. There's a very cool company called Checker Spot. And they're

based in Alameda, which is right next to me here in Oakland, California.

And what they're doing is using precision fermentation to produce oils from algies that are then

used in a whole bunch of products, including Wonder Alpine, their line of skis, snowboards, etc.

And what they're doing is basically taking all of these petroleum-derived plastics, polymers,

products, etc. that are used to make skis today and replacing them with algae-based alternatives.
