The Pacific is still often put in the margins.

There's a lot of focus on the mythical red buttons on desks in

Washington and Moscow and very little attention given to the material places at

the margins of these Western mental maps in which the detonations actually happen.

The extent of the detonations is comparable to the explosion of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima every day for half a century.

That's an apocalypse. There's no other way to describe this level of destruction.

Literature is not always about teaching lessons,

but they're often about trying to imagine a different future.
