The Apex and the Abyss presents the chasm, episode 8, the mysterious death of John Fioco.

The stereotypical college experience, especially if one lives on or near a campus, is that you work hard and you play hard.

You go to class, you study, you make the grade.

Or even if you don't, it feels justified to blow off some steam at a party.

In college, there are a lot of parties.

On March 25, 2006, that's exactly what John Fiocco planned on doing.

John was 19 years old, and he was a freshman at the College of New Jersey, studying graphic

design.

On a typical day, you could find John relaxing.

He loved to draw and listen to music, and anyone who knew him would state that he was a mellow

individual, never stirred the pot, never caused any trouble.

John resided at Wolf Hall No. 4, at the College of New Jersey. He was friendly with all of his

floormates, so on this evening in March of 2006, it was strange that John would seemingly vanish into

thin air by the next morning. The night of his disappearance, John had attended an off-campus party earlier, and while he did

drink at this party, those who saw him said when he returned, he seemed fine, not horribly

intoxicated to the point of concern.

A floor maid who saw him, Miles Ma, would claim that he was actually in a very good mood

when they crossed paths that night.

John did not return to his dorm room, but fell asleep in an unnamed girl's room with two other
