Settler colonialism is a phenomenon of the last two centuries or so,

and it is always accompanied by genocide.

The only exception I can think of is New Zealand

where Maori power countered the British sufficiently

to preserve their culture as a separate one.

But if you think about it, Americans, Europeans,

populated this continent with Africans in tow at the expensive genocide of the native population.

Same was true in Australia.

The same was true in Canada.
