Summary
This Friday episode reacts to the first day at the Presidents Cup, where the USA took a 4-1 lead over the Internationals. Andy and Brendan discuss the lineups, who flopped and who impressed. They get into the agonizing pre-match ceremony, the playing-through golf, and the fight in the International side against what could just be a dominant era of American golf in all team events. The second half of the podcast is a Flashback Friday to the time when the International players, led by Greg Norman, fired their captain, David Graham, just a month or two before the 1996 Presidents Cup. It’s an amusing tale that’s hard to imagine happening now. They close with reactions to the lineups announced for Day 2 at Quail Hollow.

| 0:00.0 | Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of set up work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here. |
| 0:15.0 | Here we go. All right, all right, all right. |
| 0:21.0 | Get to men! Start your engine! |
| 0:29.0 | Greetings and welcome to a Friday edition of the Shotgun Start. It is September 23rd. Andy, how are you doing? |
| 0:45.0 | Brendan, I'm doing well. First day of the press conference, in the books, one day down. No, yeah, I'm gruntled. I'm gruntled that it's over. |
| 1:00.0 | Really? Give me Mr. Negativo here. It was fine. It was a fine day. It's just that the teams are so overmatched. |
| 1:14.0 | It ended up about what we thought it would be, four to one, so as we record this, I'm not sure if we got to that. |
| 1:23.0 | Yes, I don't know if we expected the route that they took to get the four to one, but we expected to end up at four to one or somewhere there about. |
| 1:32.0 | But Cam Davis and Sioux Kim get the only point on the board, Taylor Pundra at the Meadow, it's another yank left on 18, and they kind of give away the last point, not give away, but give away a half. |
| 1:46.0 | It's four one after the first session. It's about what we expected. We'll see that that's a bad format for them. The teams are not quite equitable. |
| 1:58.0 | That's a home game for the United States. We're four to one. Trevor Ibleman, I want the international win, I think. I will say that outright. |
| 2:09.0 | He seemed a little deflated, but he's got to, you know, it's kind of what he had to steal himself for the possibility of a significant deficit up to the first session, basically. |
| 2:20.0 | Yeah, I mean, I think this was closer to being 5-0 than it was to being 3-2. |
| 2:27.0 | That's fair. Yeah, I mean. |
| 2:31.0 | Sheffler and Burns sort of gagged in the middle of the day. |
| 2:34.0 | It was a great shot, and it was close to 5-0. Yes, it looked like it was going to be 5-0. |
| 2:39.0 | In the middle of the day, yeah, 4-1, you would have taken and run if you're the international. |
| 2:45.0 | And it just, you know, one of the issues is like Adam Scott and Hadecki just aren't very good at this event. |
| 2:53.0 | It's terrible. |
| 2:55.0 | Adam Scott, we got the broad side of a building with this driver, Hadecki's puttin was doing is, you know, they were bad. |
| 3:01.0 | They were bad. You need your horses to play well, and they just haven't never played well. |
| 3:05.0 | And, um, and Sanjay and Corey Connors weren't great either. |
