Hi from CNN. I'm Josh and Sharna with the five things you need to know for Monday,

November 17th. President Donald Trump may have seen the writing on the wall this weekend,

which could explain his U-turn on the Epstein files. Trump last night encouraged House Republicans

to vote to release the files and move on from what he calls a Democrat

hoax.

The reversal comes after many GOP defections were expected ahead of a House vote this week

to force the Justice Department to release all the Epstein case files.

CNN's Elena Treene has more from the White House.

We did hear from Republican Thomas Massey. He said yesterday that he believes a hundred or more Republicans were going to vote to release these files.

Something that, of course, is a major problem for this administration if they are trying to, you know,

when they were, I should say, actively trying to stop this vote from happening.

I'd remind you just last week, the president had one of the Republicans who initially signed

onto that discharge position to the White House, not only to the White House, but in the

situation room because they were worried about that discharge petition, getting enough signatures

to force this vote.

Charlotte, North Carolina has become an unlikely focal point for immigration rates.

Local Democratic leaders have largely framed the surprise operation as a political distraction

ahead of next year's midterm elections, as Democrats aim to flip Republican Senator Tom Tillis's

seat after he announced he won't be running next year.
