Now if you're a long-distance hillrunner,

the chances are you'll have heard of the iconic Ramsey Round,

a grueling challenge covering 58 miles and 24 summits,

including Ben Nevis.

The circuit was established by Charlie Ramsey back in 1978,

and it stood the test of time.

Every year, runners still try to complete the route near Fort William in less than 24 hours.

Well, I caught up with Charlie and his wife Mary at their home in Edinburgh and he began by telling

me that it was the late athlete Chris Brasher who suggested he devise a new challenge in Scotland.

I was in the Lake District with all people Chris Brasher, who many folk will know all about,

and Brasher was attempting the Bob Graham round for the third time.

And I was pinned on basically as a guest support runner.

So that was fine.

All of a sudden, Chris pulled out and as a result of that, I got his place.
