underway for the person who shot and killed a well-known conservative activist who's a close ally of

President Trump. Charlie Kirk was the leader of the country's most prominent right-known conservative activist who's a close ally of President Trump.

Charlie Kirk was the leader of the country's most prominent right-wing youth activist organization called Turning Point USA. He was doing one of his Prove Me Wrong events at Utah Valley University

and answering a question about mass shootings when a sniper fired a single gunshot that hit him in the neck.

Thousands of spectators ran in a panic,

and Kirk was rushed to the hospital where he later died. A couple of people were taken into custody,

but have since been released. Authorities say they were found to have no ties to the shooting,

and the actual shooter is still at large. Kirk rose to prominence as a conservative voice

who never shied away from provocative opinions.

He joked in the past about how woke guys wanted to kill him.

Even before this event, an online petition had been circulating calling on the university to ban Kirk from speaking.

It received nearly a thousand signatures.

As of this morning, authorities have not announced a motive for Kirk's killing,
