Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Tuesday. April 14th, here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the resignations. Less than 24 hours after ending his run for governor of California, Democrat.

Eric Swalwell now says he's also going to resign from Congress. About an hour later, Texas Republican Tony Gonzalez announced the same.

When it comes to Swalwell, his downfall has been swift.

It was just Friday that the reporting started.

At least four women are now accusing him of sexual misconduct.

With allegations ranging from unwanted touching to unsolicited nude photo text messages.

One woman, though, says she was raped by Swalwell.

Swalwell denies that allegation strongly.

On social media, Swalwell posted that he will fight the quote, serious, false allegations

against him and also said this.

Expelling anyone in Congress without due process within days

of an allegation being made is wrong. But it's also wrong for my constituents to have me

distracted from my duties. Here's one of the women who has come forward. I don't think those women

in his office or on Capitol Hill in general should be around him for one more day.

So I am glad that they won't have to endure that.

And it's over for them.

The allegations and trouble for Republican Tony Gonzalez have been percolating for months.

He's been under a House ethics investigation for over a month for a relationship

with a former staffer who later died by suicide. He denied it until he didn't. And Republicans

had been reluctant, though, to force him out because of their thin house majority. But that

clearly changed when Swalwell threw in the towel.
