Hello friends and welcome to Chapter 37 of the Dead Authors Podcast. I remain your intrepid host, H.G. Wells,

and my guest for this installment of the podcast is Truman Capote, the brilliant

author of many classic literary works and has committed a devotee of drug and drink as any

of the singular minds who have graced this program.

With that bit of business done and dusted, how's your summer going?

It's a sweltering one here in 21st century Los Angeles, where I currently make my geographic and temporal home.

I must confess, summertime often provokes in me a state of dual listlessness.

When I was a lad, a summer break from school always meant finding a job to keep myself occupied and to contribute to the financial well-being of my family.

I recall so clearly how every June I'd hinge and shout about having to work all summer just to try and earn a pound.

I'd want nothing more than to pay a social call on a certain young lady of my acquaintance, only to have my boss tell me forget about

that nonsense lad I'll need you to work well into the evening tonight classes my

parents were of no help either.

Herbert, they'd say, you simply must bring home a decent wage if you intend to borrow the family

horse and buggy to carry on about town this weekend. So eager was I to avoid my labors,

I once told my boss that I was unable to come to work

due to illness,

and wouldn't you know it?

My mother and father revoked my buggy privileges as a result.
