Today we'll be deep diving into Chapter 3, a new theory of trauma.

In today's episode we'll talk about how trauma has historically been defined and introduced

a new, more expansive definition of trauma, including the archetypes of childhood trauma,

childhood conditioning, and as always, at the end of the episode we will answer

For a very long time, trauma has been a widely misunderstood concept.

Historically, the label of trauma has been applied to an event, particularly events that

pass a certain threshold.

I think what comes to mind for us most commonly are those instances, as we often call them,

the big T-traumas of abuse, physical, sexual, neglect.

It wasn't until the 90s where a very groundbreaking research study investigated first an assessment

tool called the ACEs Scale, a verse childhood experiences scale.

This research study really for the first time showed that experiences that we have in childhood

experiences again of those big T-traumas, verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse,

or neglect, divorce, active substance use, and having a parent who's incarcerated, if

and when those experiences happen to us in childhood, we finally, for the first time

in the 90s, have had research evidence that shows that we carry various negative outcomes,

some in our physical bodies, with higher instances of chronic illness, and some in our psychology,

higher instances of substance abuse and suicide.

So when these big T-traumas or these events happen in childhood, we are finally mapping

them on to long-term events into our adult lives.
