I guess I would ask people who are listening in what ways they're being change makers

and what ways are they doing their work now to create a more diverse outdoors that is welcoming

and genuine and really supportive of the community.

Hi, I'm Willow Belden and you are listening to Out There, the podcast that explores big questions through intimate stories outdoors.

One of my goals is to make the concept of the outdoors more inclusive.

Here it out there, we've always believed that nature is more than just wilderness.

It's a squirrel in a city park.

It's weeds growing through a crack in the pavement. It's a bee

pollinating a flower in your window box. Some of our best stories have involved the urban outdoors,

because any time you step out your front door, you are outside, and you're interacting with nature. Similarly, it's my hope that out there can help

shift the definition of outdoorsy. Let's face it, if someone says the word outdoorsy to you,

you probably picture an athletic, able-bodied person in their 20s or 30s.

They're probably summiting a mountain or paddling down a raging river or skiing a snowy peak.

They're wearing high-tech clothing. They're using fancy gear.

They're cisgender. And they're white.

So, pause.

We want to rewrite that narrative.

We're working to rewrite the narrative through the stories we tell and the guests we invite on the show.

And today, we want to do something additional.
