Summary

In the case of Celeste Rivas-Hernandez, nothing is simple — not the timeline, not the condition of the remains, and certainly not the path forward for investigators. Celeste was missing for over a year before her decomposed, partially dismembered remains were found in the front trunk of a Tesla tied to public figure D4vd.

Early reporting suggested freezing; LAPD later clarified the body was not frozen when discovered, leaving open the possibility of prior storage. The autopsy is under a full security hold. A grand jury is reviewing evidence behind closed doors. Multiple people have lawyered up — and still, no arrest.

Tonight we break down why “a body in your car” is NOT automatically probable cause for homicide, how decomposition complicates cause-of-death findings, why digital forensics from Tesla telemetry can take time, and what investigators actually need before charges can land.

Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer walks us through the forensic obstacles, the legal tightropes, and the hard truth: this case may hinge on a timeline investigators are still trying to piece together.

Let's move on to another case that we've been covering and watching for quite some time.

0:14.9

It's turned into another maze of contradictions.

0:17.7

We have a young woman missing for over a year, found decomposed and partially

0:22.2

dismembered, allegedly, in the front trunk of a Tesla belonging to artist David D4VD.

0:29.7

We have early reporting talking about freezing and storage, and now the LAPD is trying to

0:36.7

correct the record, saying her remains were not frozen when the car was opened.

0:41.7

We have a sealed autopsy, a grand jury meeting behind closed doors, and still all these weeks later, nobody is in custody.

0:48.1

So today, Jennifer Coff, a retired FBI special agent is joining us to break all of this down.

0:55.1

When you saw just last week a grand jury has been convened allegedly on this,

1:01.1

what's your reaction to that?

1:03.4

This is such a huge piece of information, and this is why there are multiple ways to

1:09.1

charge an individual via complaint, via criminal information,

1:13.1

and via indictment. They have chose to go, if you will, the indictment route. Now, just because

1:18.9

you have a grand jury doesn't mean this grand jury, despite what everybody says about hand

1:23.5

sandwiches, it doesn't mean that they're going to indict. Sometimes they issue a true bill,

1:28.7

sometimes a no bill, and sometimes it's never even brought to that question. The prosecutor

1:34.8

just themselves says, okay, I don't really have enough here. And they're never asked to answer

1:40.7

the question whether they've committed a crime or not.

1:49.7

These grand juries, although if this was especially appointed grand jury, would only be hearing this case.

1:51.0

But if it's hearing more cases, you know, cases just keep coming in and keep coming in.

1:55.3

They hear this bit for a half an hour and that bit for an half an hour.
