Summary

What do Zendaya, Hailee Bieber, Cardi B, and Sara Sampaio have in common? They’ve all put their faces (and bodies!) in the hands of aesthetician Vanessa Marc, the founder of Vanessa Marc Studio in New York City. She joins us to talk about why models and celebrities love her treatments, the special needs of melanin-rich skin, the benefits of lymphatic massage and Colombian wood therapy tools, and her favorite products and techniques. Plus: Why we should all be getting a massage after a long airplane flight.

Hi, everyone. Welcome to Fat Mascara, podcast about beauty culture, hosted by me, Jen Sullivan, and Jessica Matlin.

0:12.8

So at the top of the show, you know I've been liking reading some of these reviews you guys send in.

0:17.9

Please give us a review, if you don't mind going over to Apple, hitting some stars,

0:22.3

however many you choose. Give us a little constructive criticism that helps us find new listeners,

0:27.4

which is great. But you can also do that on Spotify. Give us a review there or comment on specific

0:32.5

episodes, which is always fun to see. So these comments, this is from episode 565. So that was me and Jess just last

0:39.9

week. Muccia said, okay, Muccia, this was one of my favorite episodes ever. Thanks for the PSA

0:47.3

about cat-friendly plants. By the way, Inky List makes an excellent glycolid acid body stick. I use it as deodorant. So that's in reference

0:57.3

to the anti-oderant spray I mentioned from Surface Deep, which is a glycolic acid-based spray.

1:04.3

And I was like, I don't want to put a cream on, but a stick sounds nice. So, Muccia, thank you

1:08.6

for that recommendation. Okay, enough of reviews, comments. There's more of

1:13.0

them on Spotify if you want to check the matter, leave a review of your own or comment of your own.

1:16.8

But let's get into our interview today. So as you know, it's that time of the year when celebrities

1:21.2

and models are extra busy. There's the fall winter fashion shows around the world, then there's all the award shows, the Grammys, the Oscars, etc. Well, here in New York, I have been hearing more and more about the

1:31.4

magical hands and the treatments of estatician Vanessa Mark. She's at the Vanessa Mark

1:35.8

Studio, and I will put a link to that in the show notes for you. But she's prepped the skin of

1:40.1

celebrities like Zendaya, Cardi B, but what stands out to me is that the models trust her.

1:46.4

So like Jasmine Tux, Adut Akesh, Anakash, Anakiyai, these are women who are getting a full face

1:51.9

of makeup and then having to wash it off like four or five times a day.

1:56.0

Can you just think about that?

1:57.1

Imagine what your skin would look like if you had to get a full face of makeup, wash it off, go somewhere else, put makeup on, wash it off. Your skin would be a mess. But Vanessa

2:05.5

knows how to deal with that. She has a very classic approach to facial care, which I love.
