This Sunday, as Jewish people across the world lit candles to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah,

a horrific terrorist attack unfolded in Australia.

Fifteen people were murdered in cold blood at Bondi Beach, among the

victims a 10-year-old little girl and beloved rabbi. While many in the Jewish community

were horrified, they sadly weren't surprised. They weren't surprised that they were targeted.

This is something Jewish leader, Alex Rivchen, has been warning about as he has witnessed

firsthand the escalating anti-Semitism spreading through his nation and the world.

Fire bombs, vandalism, attacks, and now outright murder.

Alex, I'm so sorry to be meeting you under these circumstances,

and I do want to talk with you about what happened. But first, I want to give

you my condolences. You lost a dear friend in this terrorist attack, Rabbi Eli Schlanger,

and you wrote a beautiful tribute to him in New York Times. So I'm so sorry for your loss.

all be coming to terms with for a long, long time. And the grief that I feel at the loss of my

dear friend and rabbi and spiritual leader, it's not mine alone. He belonged to the community.
