Summary

Celebrate Our Cinemas is a brand new limited edition podcast series, brought to you by Empire in association with Meerkat Movies from Compare The Market. Each week, for the next six weeks, Chris Hewitt will sit down with a notable guest from the world of film and dig deep into their cinema going history. What was the first film they remember seeing? What film made them laugh so hard that tears were streaming down their face? What’s their favourite cinema? And, perhaps most important of all, what’s their cinema going snack of choice?

In our first episode, Chris chats to Olga Kurylenko, the star of Black Widow, Quantum Of Solace, and The Death Of Stalin, about her moviegoing memories. From her tales of growing up in the Soviet Union to discovering the joys of cinema after moving to Paris, it’s an interview that’s full of surprises. You’ll never guess which movie she’s seen most. Believe us.

Enjoy.

Hello pod, I'm Chris Youitt and welcome to the first episode of Celebration of Cinema,

0:21.3

a brand new limited series of podcasts brought to you by Empire in association with those

0:26.5

fine folks at Mirkat movies from the market. The goal of this show is simple. This infernal

0:34.8

pandemic has reminded us all of the important things in life and for most movie fans, the

0:41.4

impact that it's had on cinemas and the very act of cinema going which so many of us

0:47.0

have taken for granted has been devastating. Earlier this year, Empire launched an entire

0:52.8

issue dedicated to celebrating cinema going and that campaign is something that we have

0:58.3

continued since. Hence, this podcast in which I will talk to a figure from the world of

1:04.3

film every week for the next six weeks about their most memorable movie going experiences.

1:10.9

I'll be asking them searching Paxman-esque questions like, what was the film that lit

1:15.9

a fire under the cinematic back sides, what film made them laugh the most, cry the most,

1:22.3

or scared the bejesus out of them the most, what's their favorite cinema in the world,

1:27.5

and perhaps most important of all, what is their movie snack of choice.

1:34.3

First up is the wonderful Olga Kirillenko, the Ukrainian actress who has starred in the

1:39.1

likes of Quantum of Solace, the death of Stalin, seven psychopaths, to the wonder and oblivion.

1:46.5

She recently starred as Taskmaster, think the cats are the bug now, in the latest movie

1:52.3

in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, which gave me the perfect chance to jump

1:58.1

on to sum with her recently and ask her about her movie going memories. In particular,

2:03.7

she waxed Lyrical about one film, the film that she has seen most in a cinema in her

2:08.9

life, and I am telling you, right now you will not be able to guess that movie. You could

2:14.7

have 100 guesses, you still wouldn't get it. Go on, give it a go. Write down 100 movies

2:21.7

right now, and let me know afterwards if anybody got it right and play nice now, no cheating.
