Where I'm at, and this is where I'll argue with the ultra-negative Metfan, this doesn't mean they can't get hot in October. Right. Of course they can. They have the talent. Now it's about one thing and one thing only. I don't want to hear about October. It's about getting there. It's about in these final 18 games, winning just enough games to qualify for the postseason where it is a brand new life and everything starts over. The good starts over, the bad starts over. And I have said this many times, I will take my chances in a best of three against the Dodgers. Has there been anything over the course of the regular season that gives me confidence? No, I didn't say I'm confident. I said, I'll take my chances. But right now it's about one thing. Are the New York Mets quite possibly going to put together an epic collapse and miss the playoffs?

And I still stand here firmly on September 9th, Teak, telling you they won't.

No.

Well, the question is, can they get themselves to safety in the next week and a half?

By winning a few games?

No, by catching the Padres.

I don't care about that.

I know. I know you don't care about it, but it just feels like... It's one thing when you go look at the standings. Yeah, you just pop up the standings. Where are the Mets right now? Oh, the wild card. They're still on the wild card plus... What is that? Plus... Oh, wait, no, they're not plus anything.

They're the one that's being chased.

Right.

If they would hop over the Padres, it would feel at least a little bit safer, even though theoretically it's not. There's a problem. Last night, the Padres came back in one, and I was happy because they beat the Reds. And it's more important for the Reds to lose than the Potra's to lose.

Right.

But the Giants are right behind you.

Yeah.

So the Giants are three out, but they're really four out because the Mets have the

tiebreaker.

The Reds are four out, and it's really four out because they have the tiebreaker.

And then Arizona's five out, and the Cardinals are five out.

And this is with 18 games to go. So it feels like the Giants and the Reds are the bigger threats. And look, there's 18 games. If the Mets go 12 and 6, they're making the playoffs. If they go 11 and 7, they should make the playoffs. What if they go 9 and 9? I don't know because the Giants, and they're the team that I probably look at and say, you never know. Yeah. If one of them gets really hot, could the Mets blow a four-game lead?

It's possible. And what they need to do is take the worry out by winning and taking care of business. And unfortunately, even when they started to play better, right? They swept the Phillies. They lose to the Marlins, but then they respond by beating Detroit. They lose two out of three to the Reds. They've lost the opener to the Phillies. They have not had an extended stretch of playing good baseball in three months. And that's not an exaggeration. That's reality. And that's where you get concerned because they haven't played consistently well in months. They are truly Tiki the opposite of last year's team.
