Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Thursday, April 9th. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the ceasefire. Both the United States and Iran claim that the ceasefire is holding,

though it is evident that it is fragile and hanging by a thread, as they now enter just the second full day since it was announced and Iran is already claiming that three parts of the agreement have been violated and the Strait of Hormuz remains essentially paralyzed.

One big focus today, Lebanon. Iran and Pakistan insist that Lebanon is part of the ceasefire deal.

But the U.S. and Israel claim that the agreement does not cover Hezbollah in Lebanon.

And Israel just conducted a massive wave of new strikes there.

This one happened in Beirut.

Lebanese officials say that more than 180 people were killed in the coordinated

Israeli strikes.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard responded by saying that shipping through the strait is now cut off again.

The vice president of the United States calls it all a misunderstanding.

I think this comes from a legitimate misunderstanding.

I think the Iranians thought that the ceasefire included

Lebanon and it just didn't. The Israelis, as I understand it, again, I'm supposed to get a fuller

report when I get on the plane, have actually offered to be, frankly, to check themselves a little

bit in Lebanon because they want to make sure that our negotiation is successful.

Yeah, President Trump just posted a new threat toward Iran overnight, claiming that U.S.

forces will remain in place until a, quote, real agreement is reached. And if not, he wrote,

then the shootin starts bigger and better and stronger than anyone has ever seen before.

Now talks to solidify an actual deal to end the war are expected to begin in Pakistan on Friday.
