Here are some of today's top headlines from the Los Angeles Times.

Mediators in Qatar are pushing for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza after they say Hamas showed

a positive response to a new proposal. But reporters say Israel hasn't weighed in, as its military

prepares a major offensive into some of the region's most populated areas. The prospect of

the assault has triggered anger at home and abroad.

After 22 months of war, most Palestinians say nowhere is safe, even in humanitarian zones.

Meanwhile, Israelis, hundreds of thousands of whom protested Sunday, are calling on the government

to reverse its plan to take over the

strip, fearing hostages still in Gaza could be at a greater risk. Egypt, alongside Qatar, is also

pushing for a deal, inviting U.S. envoy Steve Whitkoff to rejoin the talks. Israeli officials say

their position hasn't changed. The war will continue until all hostages

are released and Hamas is disarmed. On the ground, Gaza hospitals reported 28 more Palestinians

killed Tuesday, including women and children. And according to Gaza's health ministry, the death toll

has now topped 62,000.

With AIDS still restricted and negotiations dragging on, the UN is sending warnings across the globe,

saying Gaza is living the, quote, worst case scenario of famine.

President Trump assured he won't send American troops to Ukraine as he continues trying to

mediate an end to Russia's years-long war with the country.

Reporters say the announcement follows Trump's implied possibility of U.S. troops being

deployed to Ukraine during a White House meeting with Zelensky and other European leaders.
