0:34.8	host Jennifer Briny. This episode is a special episode filling you in on all
0:39.1	the Department of Homeland Security funding drama. Yesterday, Friday, February 27th,
0:44.0	the Department of Homeland Security came within a few hours of shutting down.
0:48.0	It was averted, but barely.
0:51.0	This all started on September 30th, 2014, when the 113th Congress failed for a second time,
0:57.0	going over to to properly fund the government on time.
1:01.2	Since they didn't get their job done, they passed something called a continuing resolution, which funded
1:05.7	the entire government at the old levels until December of 2014, which bought Congress
1:10.5	about 10 extra weeks to finish their most basic job.
1:14.8	In the meantime, on November 20th, President Obama issued an executive order clarifying
1:19.9	how the executive branch would enforce our nation's immigration laws.
1:23.9	The executive order basically allows people who were brought to the United States as children,
1:28.3	people who have grown up here but whose parents didn't have legal citizenship, the executive order basically says that
1:34.0	those people will not be deported. The order also allows the parents of
1:38.1	American citizens to get three-year work permits. Now for whatever reason a
1:42.4	segment of the Republican Party flipped
1:44.3	their collective shit over this executive order and this executive order is
1:48.6	the reason that all of this Department of Homeland security funding is an issue.
1:53.7	One thing I want to make very, very clear up front here is that all of the funding numbers
