welcome to the 86 episode of Congressional Dish. This is your host Jennifer Briny.

If the sound right now is a little weird, it's because I'm recording this intro from under

a blanket at my dad's house because I wasn't able to pack any microphones with me when I came home

for Christmas so please bear with me for this intro because the whole episode is not

going to sound like this but my god we have so much to talk about.

December turned out to be just as crazy and dangerous as I thought it would be, and in fact I probably

have to say that it was worse.

In the last few weeks Congress passed into law 45 billion dollars in corporate tax cuts, a 1,600 page defense

authorization with a bunch of corporate gifts attached, and then the big story of the month was

that they passed a 1,603-page monster of a 2015 budget known as the

kromnibus which funds the government until September 30th 2015 or at least most of

the government they only funded the Department of Homeland Security until February 27

so that the Republicans could wage some kind of war on President Obama's decision

not to use our tax money to deport absolutely every single person in this country who doesn't have their

proper papers.

It's a dumb political battle, but most importantly, it sets up the date of our next funding crisis

for February 27th.
