Summary

Join Mark and Thomas at the start of an exciting new story! In this first chapter of Scenes, our latest course for intermediate German learners, we visit Erna’s cosy café by the park, where regular customers and unexpected surprises make each morning unique.

We meet Heinz, a long-time patron known for his punctuality and unwavering routine. Every day, he arrives at exactly 8am for his usual coffee. But today, something is different - Heinz is late, and when he finally walks in, he’s not alone. To Erna’s amazement, he’s brought along a lively Spaniel puppy, a new companion he decided to adopt overnight. As Heinz shares his story, we get a glimpse into his life and the small but meaningful decisions that bring change.

Alongside the story, Mark and Thomas will highlight useful grammar and vocabulary, such as expressions with (sich) besorgen, the use of the present participle, or expressions like von einem Tag auf den nächsten. Their explanations, examples and discussions are perfect for intermediate German learners. 0:34.0	Me gets very good, Mark. Thank. I'm excited on our new history. I love these stories. I too am excited about this new story, a new project, a new series from Coffee Break
0:40.6	German and it's called Scenes from the Coffee Break German Cafe. Thomas, tell us a little more.
0:46.4	Gans, genau. So the idea is that every chapter, every little story that we read through is a
0:51.7	scene from a cafe. The cafe is called Erna's
0:55.0	Cafe and it sounds like a lovely, lovely place and each chapter takes us through a different
1:00.3	story that is happening in that cafe. Now we don't necessarily know where this cafe is or even
1:05.9	who the narrator is, but we will find out more about that. I think it's really there to represent any kind of
1:12.3	German or Austrian or Swiss cafe where you can go in and you get to know the people that
1:18.7	come in and you enjoy your time there. And I think as we go through the chapters, we get little
1:23.8	clues about what that cafe looks like where it is. There's often trees mentioned,
1:28.5	people go for walks with their dogs. And the narrator, it sounds like she has worked for a long
1:33.9	time and is actually a good friend of Erna. Yeah, and we'll find out all about this as we go through
1:39.1	the stories. Now, in each episode, we're going to listen to the chapter.
1:46.1	And then of course we'll go through that in detail.
1:50.2	And as with all of our coffee bake German content, I am the learner here.
1:55.2	So I am going to be doing my best to understand what is going on to ask Thomas questions and hopefully ask those same questions that you may have as well as our listeners.
