In this video, we're going to go over two terrifying cave stories, one of which took place in one of the largest systems on Earth and in the other, something disturbing happened deep inside the cave that remains a mystery to this day.

It was New Year's Eve in 1965 when the Romer Flores Cave Exploration Group, who were a band of

eager students led by a man named Walter, embarked in what was meant to be the highlight of their

multi-day caving expedition.

Despite their designation as students, though, these were not amateurs.

They had actually spent years honing their skills in the tunnels of Hungary's karst caves.

Walter himself was also a benedictine monk and seasoned caver and had led many of these young men and women on past adventures.

That particular night, their goal was ambitious.

They'd be taking an underground journey to the Hungarian-Chekylloslovakian border

to an iron-gated boundary hidden deep within the cave system. To prepare for this, leading up to this

trip, their training was rigorous. Nearly every weekend, they ventured into the rocky terrain

of Hungary's karst regions where they learned the art of underground navigation, rope techniques,

and the delicate balance of respecting nature while also conquering its challenges.

Unlike modern cavers equipped with waterproof suits and advanced gear, these students relied

on layered clothing and carbide lamps, which were typical of the time period.

The year prior, by 1964, Volta had taken the group beyond their usual stomping grounds and
