Hey guys, it's JJ here. It's Saturday, July 5th, and I wanted to talk to you guys as today was the funeral for Diogo Jota and his brother, Andrei Silva, in their hometown of Gondomar in Portugal.

It's been a few days now since the tragic events in northern Spain on Thursday when both brothers perished in a car accident

and I don't know how to do this really because I didn't want to do any kind of podcast on the day it happened.

It was just so shocking and so tragic that it just didn't seem right to all.

Like, I'm just going to fire up a podcast and talk about this.

And I'm not criticizing anyone who did.

But I just, I felt like I just had to kind

of sit with it and think about it and it was it's such a tragedy and my first thoughts are you

know go out to the families of Andres Silva and Diogo Jota, Jota recently married three young kids.

It's just so incredibly awful.

And for the family to lose two brothers in one night is just, I mean, the unimaginable horror of being delivered that news. Those were the things I thought about, first of all. And then, you know, it was so interesting to be contacted by so many of you guys, the listeners, who just wanted to give your condolences to me a man who never met Diogo Zota and it was absolutely a lovely thing to do

a right thing to do so many people contacted me saying oh I'm so upset by this and then I

feel as if I shouldn't be or I didn't know him.

But that doesn't really matter.

You see him every Saturday on your TV screen.

And we create bonds and connections with these players watching them.

And that means that when something happens to them, it's meaningful to us.

And also a tragedy like this just speaks to everybody.

It speaks to the fragility of life.

It speaks to just how quickly life can be snuffed out and taken away.

I mean, Andre Silva was 25.

His brother Diogo 28, gone in an instant. That's the reality.
