Andrew, have you heard of the Magnus effect?

No. No. Well, the Magnus effect. No. No. Well the Magnus effect applies to the

Sobishly strike. It applies to the Tiago strike. So my friend Phil who's an

avid listener to the podcast said it's the air pressure difference that's created by a rotating ball.

So the pressure on top of the ball is lower than the pressure under it.

So while gravity is pulling the ball towards the ground,

the air resistance prevents it from falling as it normally would. If you want the

formula for the pressure, pressure equals half density of air multiplied by the velocity squared. Think of those

magnificent Roberto Carlos goals. Those are also because of Magnus effect, only the

movement is lateral instead of vertical.
