Catherine Annis, core teacher for Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training, talks with J about Scaravelli-inspired yoga and the evolution of yoga teacher training. They discuss her start as a dancer and early inspirations, discovering her primary teacher, moving into a space of ease rather than seeking out challenge, structure and the use of form in somatic-based practices, meeting people where they are while still offering a deeper inquiry, defining parameters for training teachers, and having the courage to share your authentic experience.

And I've been getting a number of inquiries from listeners.

0:17.0

Seems like the most common questions are about time commitments. People have very busy lives,

0:24.7

and they're wondering what the requirements are, how many live Zoom meetings they need to attend.

0:31.0

And in all of my previous mentions, I've always said, the program is co-creative. It doesn't have arbitrary hoops that you need to jump through and that it fits to you.

0:42.9

And that's what I meant, that there aren't a set number of meetings that you need to come to.

0:49.3

Some people have a lot of time and they like to come to a lot of Zoom meetings.

0:55.4

Some people like to work more independently and do not want to be in Zoom meetings. Some people have stretches of time

1:00.2

where they're able to come to meetings and then other times when they're not. Everything's on

1:04.4

replay and it's a year-long program. So a lot of life happens in a year. And I guess it's confusing. I guess it's

1:14.2

unusual that there aren't like this set thing that you have to follow to. But to me, that really

1:20.8

goes to these deeply ingrained ideas we have about yoga teacher training. And all I'm doing

1:27.3

is getting back to the way that myself and my teachers learn yoga.

1:32.2

We did not learn yoga and become teachers following along an hours-based curriculum in a linear progression.

1:42.2

It happened in an organic way that unfolded over time. So I've created a

1:49.5

guideline, a structure for us to go off of. But it's not something that's required or that you

1:55.5

have to follow. It's something that you utilize in the way that makes the most sense for you.

2:03.2

So I am starting a new group in January, and if you are feeling inspired to a deeper study

2:11.0

into yoga or you're interested in developing a teaching practice or you're already a teacher

2:16.5

and you're looking for some new

2:18.2

perspective, then I encourage you to check out my online yoga teacher training program.
