Summary

Did God use evolution to create life? On this ID The Future, we’re sharing the second half of a recent conversation with Dr. Casey Luskin that originally aired on the Truthful Hope podcast. Casey is critiquing theistic evolution, the view that God used evolutionary mechanisms to create life. In today's episode, he continues by next addressing the inadequacy of natural selection and random mutation to generate biological complexity. Luskin also points out that even non-ID scientists have expressed skepticism about the explanatory power of neo-Darwinism. All this makes it very hard to justify the position of theistic evolutionists, who claim God uses evolution to create life. In reality, the more we learn about the complexity and design of life, the less adequate neo-Darwinism is as an explanation. This is Part 2 of a two-part conversation. Source

Welcome to ID the Future. I'm your host, Andrew McDermott.

Today, we're sharing the second half of a recent conversation with Dr. Casey Luskin from

0:21.6

the Truthful Hope podcast. Casey is critiquing theistic evolution, the view that God used

0:27.9

evolutionary mechanisms to create life. In part one, Casey reviewed the terms of the debate,

0:34.6

including what is meant by the word evolution. He explains that the main

0:38.7

problem with the theistic evolution perspective is that it inherits all the numerous

0:43.1

scientific problems that are associated with the standard evolutionary account. He began reviewing

0:49.1

some of those problems by discussing the scientific limitations in explaining the origin of life.

0:55.2

On this episode, he continues by next addressing the inadequacy of natural selection and

1:00.9

random mutation to generate biological complexity.

1:04.5

Luskin argues that the required complexity of life is so high that blind natural mechanisms

are insufficient.

1:11.7

He also points out that even non-ID scientists have expressed skepticism about the explanatory power

1:17.7

of neo-Darwinism.

1:19.8

Let's jump back into the conversation now.

Here's Dr. Luskin and his host, Jacob Vasquez.

The next question, though, is another biggie.

Natural selection and random mutation.

1:32.4

I know that's also another huge topic, but you said in your article, arguably, the evolution

of life is where theistic evolutionists defer the most to Orthodox Darwinian thinking.

What is natural selection, and then what are the
