v. Greenwood. It's a 1988 U.S. Supreme Court case that

addresses the issue of whether the Fourth Amendment protects an individual's trash from warrantless

searches by law enforcement officers. This case involves a situation where the police in California

suspected that defendant Greenwood was involved in drug trafficking. The police did not have a warrant,

but decided to search the defendant's

garbage, which was left outside for collection on the curb. After searching the trash,

they discovered items they believed were related to drug activity, including searching bags of

marijuana. Based on this evidence, the police obtained a warrant and conducted further searches
