Summary

In the southeastern coastal region of India, sits the state of Andhra Pradesh. Beginning in the 16th century, a region of the state known as Golconda became the premier location for mining and trading precious gems. For 300 years merchants from around the world would travel to this specific area to search for diamonds that were of unmatched quality and size. Kings, Sultans, and Emperors all came to covet and desire the gems produced at the Golconda Mines. Throughout history, some of the wealthiest and most powerful rulers throughout Asia and Europe all possessed massive diamonds that were brought up from the depths of the Indian mines. Legends and rumors swirl about some of the most notable diamonds that came from the area. Tales of jewels stolen from ancient temples and ancient gods seeking vengeance on those that would seek to possess their power. Of the multitude of world-famous diamonds that still survive to this day in collections around the world, one has been marked as perhaps one of the most cursed items in modern history.
