Caroline. Caroline Gleke is a climber, skier, conservationist, and podcaster.

She climbed Everest with a torn aCL.

She has a quarter million followers on Instagram and has graced the cover of every major skiing magazine.

More recently, she's been trying to save the world becoming an outspoken climate

and environmental activist even testifying before Congress about public lands

and climate change. These pursuits give my life purpose and meaning. My livelihood and my health depend on

access to protected public lands and a stable climate and right now both are at

risk. She's done a lot. But even with a resume like that, she still took pretty much everyone by surprise in January when she announced that she was running for Senate as a representative from Utah.

I just filed my candidacy for US Senate.

I am terrified and excited.

It was a bold move for a liberal mountain athlete

from a conservative mountain state, but also an interesting political

gamut because Utahans do love their outdoor sports.

In early June, writer and conservationist Luis Benitez sat down with Caroline at the Outside Festival in Denver to talk about her candidacy.

Louis is the chief impact officer at the Trust for Public Lands,

and his new book is Higher Ground,

how the outdoor recreation industry can save the world.

So they had lots to talk about.
