Episode 78 Carol Sue Klaber Part 1 of 2

In June 1976, 16 year old Carol Sue Klaber was found in a ditch, half nude and bludgeoned to death. She had last been seen by multiple witnesses getting into a distinctive sedan driven by a tall, slender, blond young man. But no one knew who he was. Multiple leads and suspects failed to pan out. Then two years later a horrific rape happened in Park Hills that almost exactly mirrored Carol’s case, down to the description of the suspect. Unfortunately, police didn’t know who this rapist was, either. Both cases went unsolved for more than 40 years. When cold case investigators reopened the Carol Klaber case, they ended up solving both: one using forensic genealogy, and the other, using old fashioned methods.

1:09.7	Dr. Gaines Huey, a dentist in Walton, Kentucky, was on his way to work in
1:14.5	Southern Boone County at 7.45 a.m. on Saturday, June 5th. As he drove along Chambers Road,
1:21.2	which is Route 2, right near I-75, something caught his eye in a roadside ditch. The doctor
1:26.6	stopped his car and peered out the window.
1:28.7	Then he got out of his car and stared.
1:31.3	A young woman lay in the drainage ditch.
1:33.9	She was nude except for a white blouse and bra.
1:36.6	Her tumbled dark hair and pale face were crusted with dried blood.
1:41.6	At Kentucky State Police post six in Dry Ridge, Detective Jan Wushner got the call from Dr. Huey at 7.55 a.m.
1:49.3	Trooper Wushner progressed to the location, verified that there was a body, and called in the homicide squad.
1:55.0	He also interviewed Dr. Huey who had met him at the body site.
1:59.1	KSP detective Jerry Keith was called to the scene,
