The only thing to report would be she was pretty popular and had a bunch of friends

What wasn't difficult to find in the papers were the maddening details of the assault against

Carla and Rodney and Carla's eventual murder, even down to sometimes unsubstantiated speculation of what she had gone through the three and a half

days that she was unaccounted for.

When a crime is committed against an individual, the media is more than willing to dish out the macabre details.

The more gruesome and shocking and abhorrent the circumstances, the more likely the press is to attempt

to sear the images into the populace's brains, providing

the fodder necessary to nourish that morbid curiosity that is, apparently, a built-in component
