We have to parent our parent, or parents in her case. We discuss all the challenges, connections we have with this parent-child relationship,

you know, where we switch roles and we have to take care of them.

My guest shares the emotional toll of being a caregiver, the guilt, moments of anger, all of these things,

and the grief you go through once you do lose a parent.

It's not just a story about caregiving.

It's a story about the mixed emotions

and mourning somebody who is still alive.

So my name is Marissa.

And I am a granddaughter of my lovely grandparent.

Uh-huh.

You're going through that phase of life with your mom

where you're now the caretaker

and you're like dealing with the whole buildup

to they're losing control of their faculties,

whether mental, physical, things like that.

And then that path only goes further towards an eventual decline and eventually
