So our topic for today will be focused on one of the most important aspects of Cardiac

Surgery, which is Cardiopolony bypass, a vast majority of the operations that we perform

as Cardiac Surgeons would not be possible without bypass.

So let's start by talking about what bypass even is.

Jessica, how would you define Cardiopolony bypass for someone who's not familiar with it?

Yeah, so Cardiopolony bypass is a way in which we can divert blood away from the heart

and lungs, so in other words, our searchable field during Cardiac Surgery and allows

for a bloodless operating field.

Additionally, the bypass machine will take over the normal physiologic functions of the

heart and lungs during the operation.
