hell. All right, then. The planet's on fire, so yes, this is hell. The oil and gas industry has done a great job of convincing us that without oil or gas

our lives would be miserable if not unlivable. Without oil and gas not only would we not be able to drive

our cars or keep our homes

heated on cold winter nights like the cold winter nights we have been

experiencing here in Chicago lately and will again this weekend but without

petrochemicals created by the oil and gas industry, we would be unable to have the plastics that we depend upon in nearly every facet of our lives, including health care that keeps us alive during a pandemic.

We would not be able to have the fertilizers that help our food grow and feed us every day

or the lubricants to run all that machinery that makes our lives convenient, or so the oil

and gas industry would like us to believe, and unfortunately the vast majority of us do.

We've been convinced because as our upcoming guest points out,

while the rest of us were playing checkers, the oil and gas industry executives

were playing three-dimensional chess.

With these kinds of advertising campaigns, it should come as no surprise that it is easier

to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine a world without fossil fuels with

apologies to Frederick Jameson.
