Summary
Back at it again Caps fans, Jordan Giorgio, JJ Regan and Nick Ashooh got together after a heart breaking Caps loss where Washington looked to have everything in control mid-way through the 2nd period until a late run by the Islanders scoring 4 straight goals to take Game 1 of the series. As JJ says in the pod... "this one hurts" but it is nothing the Caps haven't faced before. Speaking of being hurt, Nicklas Bäckström was on the wrong end of a nasty hit by Anders Lee, the crew will debate whether the hit was dirty or not, why the Caps don't need to panic being down just 0-1 and Todd Rierden gives an "update" on Mr. Bäckström plus much more!

| 0:00.0 | Well, that was worth the wait for the first two periods, as the caps seemed to be on top of the world. |
| 0:09.2 | But things quickly took a turn. |
| 0:11.0 | The Capitals followed their first game against the New York Islanders by a score of four to two. |
| 0:15.4 | Regardless, it is safe to say the Stanley Cup playoffs have officially begun. |
| 0:20.2 | I'm Jordan Georgio, joined by Nick Aschew |
| 0:22.6 | and J.J. Regan to break down what was nothing short of a disappointing loss by the capitals. Nick, |
| 0:28.1 | they completely let this one slip away. It was the most deflating thing I've watched in quite some time. |
| 0:34.7 | It's funny. We know sports, especially hockey is definitely one of those |
| 0:38.9 | sports where like it's about momentum, right? And you can watch a game and you can feel the change in |
| 0:43.6 | momentum. The end of that second period into the third period where that two nothing lead becomes a |
| 0:48.8 | two two game, it was like the moment. It feels like something where you're in like a group of friends, |
| 0:53.5 | like a small party, and you've got that friend that comes in and says something really awkward and just kills the mood. That's exactly how it felt where you're all of a sudden looking going, how do we get to this being two too? And then it's completely worse the rest of that third period. But it was, it was unbelievable to watch a tale of like three games in that where it's just physical. Everybody's fighting each other. There's a bunch of penalties to the caps, then capitalize on a couple of power plays, to then all of a sudden the islanders come back and just blow that thing out of the water. It was, it was mind blowing to me to see that happen. It certainly escalated quickly, but the capitals have been here before, JJ. |
| 1:28.8 | They've been here before. |
| 1:30.1 | They've had tough series before. |
| 1:31.9 | Let's not forget in 2018, they lost the first two games to the Columbus Blue Jackets |
| 1:35.7 | and ended up winning four straight in that game. |
| 1:38.3 | But boy, this one's going to be tough to come back from. |
| 1:41.4 | No dude, it hurts. |
| 1:43.4 | But, man, that was a tough loss, |
| 1:46.3 | especially with how good or how poorly New York was at the start of that game |
| 1:51.3 | and how good the caps looked. |
| 1:53.3 | They played much better than I anticipated. |
