In this episode, I'm looking at capital punishment in the United States which is something we haven't had in New Zealand for quite a long time

The idea of executing anyone is like quite foreign to us when I say capital punishment, what do you think?

The death penalty, putting people to death.

Just the concept that someone's done something

and they've been found by a court to be guilty and the punishment is we will

kill you for that. I'm just wondering how you feel about that personally.

Oh, well personally, obviously I oppose the death penalty. It seems, I mean it's a

strange one, isn't it? That's in parenting there's always people saying you don't kind of model the

behavior back to the child that you're trying to disapprove of this is a slightly

more like complicated case obviously, but it's essentially

society modeling back the violence and destruction that it's trying to disapprove of I guess there's that it's just also the human

cost of just killing people is is pretty gross and the potential of executing innocent people is morally too high cost to pay for me.

You know, I don't want to rubbish anyone's loss when they've lost loved ones and I see this devastating

thing to go through.

I thankfully haven't experienced anything like that and I can understand the need or the want for revenge in that

situation but I just have to believe that exacting harsher and harsher punishments are more violent

isn't ultimately the most productive way to deal with the problems of society.

As I talked to you about this, I realize I've never really canvassed other New Zealanders for their thoughts on where the execution should ever be

something that's done. Do you think there's any kind of appetite in New Zealand? Is

there anyone out there going yeah let's bring executions back? I think there's
