that of Canterbury? Canterbury has quite a rich history and it played a rather

prominent role in church history. So on this

episode of five minutes in church history let's go on a field trip to Canterbury.

When the Romans arrived in the middle of the first century

AD, they found an already thriving village there.

Then they set about to do what the Romans did.

They built their little city of Rome.

It was built on the high ground along the river store. They built a forum, they built

temples to their gods, they even built a theater. Well, this little Roman city lasted

until the collapse of the Roman Empire around the four tens.

With the collapse of the Roman Empire, the Roman army simply left.

They abandoned Canterbury and returned back to Rome.

This left the town in a bit of disrepair as they walked away from it.

But about a century and a half later comes along Agustin.

This is not the Augustine of the Confessions in the City of God, but the other one, the

Augustine who would bring Christianity to Great Britain.
