Now, I don't know if you're familiar with the name

of Caesar Chavez.

Here in California, it's a name that everybody knows.

And what he did is he created the United Farm Workers Union, prior to the creation of

the union farm workers, particularly grape pickers, were treated horrifically.

These were seasonal workers that came in, usually from Mexico,

and would pick grapes for the season. And they were put up by the farm owners and these ramshackle

buildings. You've seen those slave quarters prior to the Civil War where slaves were living.

It was a sort of wooden dilapidated, wooden, no toilet, no electricity, no water.

That's what their living conditions were like.

And they worked morning to dusk and were paid miserable wages.

I'm talking about the farm workers.

So Caesar Chavez became a labor leader up through the

ranks, started the union, and he became a hero, a labor hero. And especially, as I said,
