| 1:12.6 | and would pick grapes for the season. And they were put up by the farm owners and these ramshackle |
| 1:20.6 | buildings. You've seen those slave quarters prior to the Civil War where slaves were living. |
| 1:28.3 | It was a sort of wooden dilapidated, wooden, no toilet, no electricity, no water. |
| 1:33.3 | That's what their living conditions were like. |
| 1:35.3 | And they worked morning to dusk and were paid miserable wages. |
| 1:40.3 | I'm talking about the farm workers. |
| 1:42.3 | So Caesar Chavez became a labor leader up through the |
| 1:45.9 | ranks, started the union, and he became a hero, a labor hero. And especially, as I said, |
