Greetings, everyone. It is April 29th the day after the Canadian federal election. And like a lot of you, I woke up this morning, not totally sure what to make of the results last night. I mean, the Conservative Party had the biggest turnout and percentage of the votes since 1988. Pierre Polyev lost his seat in Carlton

0:24.4

and the Liberals won with the minority government. So there's, I mean, there's a lot going on,

0:29.7

lots of questions to ask and answers to be had. And Matt and I will be bringing you some of that

0:35.2

political analysis and response and trying to give some worldview perspective

0:38.6

as well later this week.

0:40.8

But what I wanted to do this morning is I wanted to put out this video and I wanted to discuss

0:46.2

something that my wife and I were actually discussing last night before the results started

0:50.7

coming in.

0:51.7

She shared with me a portion of a podcast that quoted some of a

0:57.0

sermon from Charles Spurgeon. The title of the sermon is an instructive truth. You can find that

1:02.1

for free. All of his sermons are kind of public domain. But what I wanted to do is I wanted to

1:08.4

read a portion from the sermon by way of giving some perspective, some encouragement to help make sense of what's going on and really to direct us into the days, the weeks, the months, and the years ahead.

1:23.2

And so I want to set it up by saying the sermon has to do with the prophet Jeremiah's perspective on what's happening in Babylon, with Nebuchadnezzar, who's a, at least initially, an evil leader that's opposed to God and opposed to God's people and opposed to God's purposes.

1:41.0

And so this is what Spurgeon has to say in this sermon.

1:46.1

It's a lengthier quote, but it is very much worthwhile. And listen to it, reflect on these words. And I've given you the

1:53.6

source of the sermon as well. So you can read it in the future. I think this is a good reminder for

1:58.1

us. It is what Spurgeon said.

2:08.3

The affairs of this world are not under the control of men, however much they imagine that they are.

2:21.0

There is a supreme authority to theirs and a power which rules overrules and works according to its own beneficent will, whatever men may desire or determine to do.

2:29.0

Whatever Nebuchadnezzar meant to do, he was only the instrument in the hands of God for the accomplishment of the divine purpose.

2:32.7

He proposed, but God disposed.

2:37.8

The tyrant of Babylon thought that he was working out his own will,
