Today, we're tackling the question, can you train someone in spiritual gifts? We get this question

a lot, especially around the time of year where we start opening up conference registration or

begin to promote our introduction to spiritual gifts course. And I think this question usually arises

because many people misunderstand what we're saying when we say training in the gifts.

Let me be very clear about what we're not saying. I am not saying if you come to a conference that we host or a course that we run, that I'm going to be able to give you some kind of spiritual gift that I'll be able to impart to you healing or prophecy or tongues. That's just not how spiritual gifts work. Gifts are not manufactured. They're not transferred at human decisions. They are given by God sovereignly. Listen to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12, 7 through 11.

He says, to each is given the manifestation of the spirit for the common good.

For to one is given through the spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of

knowledge according to the same spirit.

To another faith by the same spirit.

To another gifts of healing by the one

spirit, to another, the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish

between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

All of these are empowered by one in the same spirit, who appoints to each individually as he

wills. Notice that final each individually as he wills.
