Inside of the first three hours of their Tuesday morning, the Green Bay Packers turned a largely valueless piece of paper into $10 million.

And in the next few months, they'll turn a lot of that same paper into $90 million.

Now, I'd love to tell you this is the most wild financial transaction of 2021, but it's not even remotely close.

I mean, let's be real here. There's a cryptocurrency named Shiba Inu Coin that has a total market value of nearly $30 billion, which is literally more than double all the revenue earned by the NFL and its 32 teams in 2020.

Much like the trillions of dollars in cryptocurrency and pixelated art that doesn't exist in a physical realm and so many other things that just seem to do little more than move money from one account to the next.

Value is in the eye of the marketplace. And as it turns out, the Packers simply understood the assignment in 2021.

You need money? You don't necessarily have to surrender something of value to get it. Just know your audience.

The Packers certainly do, and for the sixth time in the team's history, they're offering stock in the team.

The cost for a share of that stock?

$300 plus shipping and handling.

The return for fans? Well, brace yourselves. If you're not a Packer fan, it doesn't sound like such a great deal.

You get to attend annual shareholder meetings and vote for the board of directors and executive committee that ultimately guides the team.

But those votes for being factual here are so diluted that it would be something like you or I casting our ballot in a governor's race.

Of course, there are some other perks like offers for priority memorabilia, maybe a luncheon or a tour of the stadium.

Basically, in some ways, and I know Packers fans don't like to hear this, you're in a kind of a cool glorified fan club.

Plus, you get a certificate that says you're a Packer stockholder, which you can repeat as a badge of honor if you really want to do that.
