Welcome to Prognosis. I'm Laura Carlson. It's day 249 since coronavirus was declared a global

pandemic. Today's main story? When drug maker Eli Lilly's antibody treatment was given the

green light from regulators, it was a breakthrough in keeping infected patients from getting sicker.

But the company's CEO says the soaring rate of cases in the U.S. means it may be impossible

to make enough of the medicine.

But first, here's what happened in virus news today.

A promising new COVID-19 vaccine is getting closer to being ready for widespread distribution.

Pfizer said a final analysis showed its vaccine was 95% effective.

That paved the way for the company to apply for the first U.S. regulatory authorization for a

coronavirus shot within days.

Pfizer and partner Bioentech said their vaccine-protected people of all ages and ethnicities,

with no significant safety problems so far,

in a trial that includes almost 44,000 participants.

In Germany, a protest over distancing and hygiene rules turned violent.

Berlin police used water cannons to break up a large demonstration near the Brandenburg Gate,

where thousands of people had gathered. Pressure has been growing on German authorities, who are facing a crunch

meeting next week to lay out a long-term plan to fight the pandemic. With restrictions likely to be
