I am delighted to be joined here in the Line Hotel in Washington, D.C. by Daniel McCarthy,

who is the editor of modern age,

a columnist for The Spectators World Edition.

And Dan, I think we've done a pre- or just post-election podcast, maybe both, in 2016, 2020 and now 2024.

And I don't want to overpraise you,

but you are always very, very astute in what's going on in American politics.

I'm very pleased to talk to you because in this phase of the election,

the last few days, people seem to go mad and they jump on tiny crumbs of evidence and blow them into

great theories that the election is definitely going one way or the other. So I'm going to do

that and ask you, what tiny crumbs are you picking up in recent days that have suggested

to you that the election is going one way or the other? Well, I don't know if it's a tiny crumb,

but I've been thinking about the difficulty pollsters have in reaching Trump voters. Several

pollsters have said that when they contact people they think are going to be Trump voters,

they will often have those voters just hang up on them. So that is a deliberate non-response from these voters.

And, you know, the pollsters have to have a model of what the electorate's going to look like

with the proportion of Republicans and Democrats turning out is going to be. And if they can't
