Chapter 25, Raina

Dianfeo lived in a compound.

It was rather unimpressive and quite large for one person.

Multiple buildings clustered behind a single wooden fence which had charred in certain places from the dragon attacks.

A few people milled on the street, but none stepped through the open gate except Raina.

She passed by a wilting garden.

If Kianth were here, she'd be scowling at the mistreatment, especially with the warming weather

and planting season in full swing, and a few empty barracks. This place must have housed soldiers

once upon a time. Maybe it had existed since the dragons awoke, before the lines of dragon country

were defined.

The buildings looked old enough.

She approached the only closed door and wrapped on it.

The weather was brisk now, bright and cheery, and she basked in the sunshine as she waited for Deon Feo's answer.

"'Enter, they called.

She stepped into a cozy office,

with Dearn Feo perched behind a huge desk,

hunched over parchment.

They glanced up, did a double take,

and reluctantly set down their quill.
