All right. Hey, back all the show. One of our favorites, John Neighbors, of course, from inside Arkansas and the Lockdown Razorbacks podcast. John, how you been, man?

0:24.5

I've been good, man. Just going through a lot of crazy things over here with the Razorback Athletic Department and all various

0:29.7

sports. But it's good to be on with you once again. Yeah, well, of course, you know, we mostly talk

0:37.1

football here, but now that you said that,

0:40.7

and I have been keeping up with your show, I know you kind of discussed all this, but can you share with our audience just your thoughts on Arkansas?

0:50.3

They're the first ones out of the SEC to kind of, you know, just, I don't know if destroy is the right word, but just stop playing tennis, essentially.

1:00.0

What was your thoughts on that? And what's the reaction there within the fan base?

1:04.3

Well, I think the reaction is twofold. You have some people that say, who cares? Because as long as it's giving more money to football or to basketball

1:11.9

or whatever that that's all they care about which is fine because i mean let's be honest there's

1:16.4

only two sports on the university of arkansas campus that makes money and that is football and

1:20.2

basketball so i i understand that sentiment but it's a matter of you know what are you doing to get to

1:26.4

that point because you never want to be the

1:28.0

first in this. I keep hearing from people who's being defended of this. Like, hey, this is

1:32.1

just the way things you're going. This is just the way it's going. I'm like, okay, maybe,

1:38.2

but until I start seeing other SEC schools cutting sports, I'm not going to believe it just yet. So I immediately go with that. But the problem is, it's just the lack of communication from the athletic department. I think that this could have been saved because we're talking about $2.5 million. I know that's a lot of money to me and you, but it's not an overwhelming amount of money in the grand scheme of things. And you went through such drastic measures. You didn't talk to anybody.

2:01.6

You didn't even try to save it.

2:02.7

You didn't talk to any donors. You didn't talk to anybody. You just did it. Didn't hold a press conference. Did it on a news dump on Friday. It's very cowardly, in my opinion. And then on top of all of that, what's crazy is that there's a behind the scenes now very much an effort to be made about saving it.

2:18.3

Like big boosters, former coaches and players are coming in and saying,

2:21.5

hey,

2:21.6

we're going to, is that there's a behind the scenes now very much an effort to be made about saving it.

2:18.3

Like big boosters, former coaches and players are coming in and saying, hey, we want to save this. So there's a lot going on. But again, I understand it's about money everywhere you go. Every school is dealing with these crazy things that's going on college athletics. But here's how I put it, Mike. It's like if I wanted to lose weight this summer, I could go and I could diet and I could exercise.

2:37.0

I could do all those things, or I can just saw my arm off. Both things I lose weight, I know the poundage is down, but one way is a little bit better than the other. And that's kind of how I feel like with this handling of the tennis situation. It's like you needed to cut some fat.
