It is three minutes after 10, and it suddenly occurred to me that no one ever thinks they've been gaslit.

That's the whole point of gaslighting, isn't it?

So perhaps it's helpful on occasion to reflect upon areas in your life where you might have been gaslit,

rather than

dedicating so much time to pointing out the gaslighting of others. Do you know, I mean,

you have to just quick recap on what gaslighting actually is. It comes from a play written,

I think, between the wars. I could be wrong about that, so don't sue me. And it involved a man

trying to send his wife mad by turning

down the light in their home a tiny bit every day and telling her that it was perfectly normal.

So she begins to think she's going mad. Or, I mean, it's become over the years synonymous with

the idea of believing something that isn't true.

You've been gaslit into believing something that is not true.

And the phrase is now used, the word is now used, chiefly in a political sphere,

to describe people being persuaded to act against their own interests.

So I think I might have been gaslit a bit.

I genuinely mean this.
