Summary

On this Friday Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis break down Ohio State's season-opener against Indiana and make their picks. Here's what gets discussed: The conversation starts by getting to know the Hoosiers and their dozens of newcomers by way of the transfer portal. Then Stephen asked Nathan and Andrew a simple question: What can OSU show on offense and defense to let you know the rosters on a national championships trajectory? Afterward, Stephen kicks the two off the pod and invites Tyler Shoemaker to discuss the game from a gambling perspective. Finally, the trio returns to make their game picks. But not before a lengthy discussion about milkshakes because who doesn't like a good milkshake? Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hey, hey, where you been? But God talk is about to begin. Hey, hey, hey, come on in.

0:31.0

And Indiana last year was very much not good. I think they were one thirty first in, you know, points points allowed per game, something around that level.

0:44.0

They won two big ten games in the last two years. Tom Allen's idea of love everyone has not shown him a lot of love back. And I don't think any of it matters because none of the people who had anything to do with either one of those teams have anything to do with what's going on this year.

0:59.0

Nathan, they have over thirty new guys on the roster this year and days when asked that on multiple days, how do you prepare for a team with this much new?

1:10.0

What does he have to say about that? But then also when you're trying to prepare into a pod like this, how difficult has it been for you to figure out how you're going to talk about this team?

1:18.0

You know, I don't know if it's as difficult in this match up as it would be if a better team had thirty transfers, but they don't typically bring on thirty transfers.

1:27.0

We've seen it work before. Michigan State had a slew of transfers a couple years ago and rose to the top because they happened to be a couple of them were among the best players in the country at their position.

1:36.0

I don't know if that's going to be true of IU. We'll see. I know that from listening to the talking to the players on Wednesday night, it has had a little bit of a wrinkle to game prep.

1:46.0

And this is true. I think across the board now there's transfers on every team.

1:50.0

People who are preparing for a higher state this week have to go back a much Ole Miss film for Taiwan Malone and Davis and Ignatius and you know San Diego State Film for Josh Simmons and and Syracuse Film for Jihad Carter.

2:04.0

So they're having to do it too. And in some ways, probably almost just as much, even if the volume isn't as much because I think Ohio State probably has some clue as to which of these transfers are going to play the most for Indiana.

2:15.0

But it does add a wrinkle. Like you can't just watch last year's film. You have to still watch last year's film to get a sense of what system you think is going to come out there.

2:23.0

But you know, the Code of Intercoordinator Maggary area for for Indiana who it sounds like might be calling the plays is has not been an if it's a coordinator before.

2:33.0

And so what you go off for that like there's a lot of unknowns for Ohio State this year. And I think that's going to be intriguing.

2:39.0

You've got guys who are playing their first real games who are probably going to have some butterflies and are in important spots are going to have to respond.

2:48.0

And you are not necessarily going to just be able to win this game by how you out coached or out skiing someone ahead of the game.

2:57.0

I think there's going to be a little bit of a proving ground for for some guys maybe in a game like this because it's going to be about you know responding in the moment beating the guy in front of you.

3:06.0

So Andrew that new for Indiana just I mean we talked to let length about Ohio State quarterback situation and having two guys to choose from Indiana's and a similar boat here.

3:16.0

David Jackson who is the little brother of Tracy Jackson former all American and indeed also at Indiana who's now in the NBA from basketball standpoint.

3:25.0

He was a top 200 recruit in the 2022 class he started out at Tennessee and now he's at Indiana and then the other guy is Brandon source be who was a true freshman also a 2022 guy was on their team last year but played minimal snaps play 12 snaps was three of six for eight yards and an interception.

3:41.0

So they're also going to a quarterback battle right now and unlike with Ryan Day who has told us who's going to start even if both are going to play Tom Allen has kept everything close to the best in that situation.

3:52.0

It's we've asked Ryan Day about you know we asked Ryan Day about you know plan both of these quarterbacks but we also as Jim knows about having to prepare for two quarterbacks.
